The ATHLETIC HALF-ZIP JERSEY / ARMY is a heavy cotton jersey sweatshirt with a 50s brass, oval-shaped zipper to the chest. The front of the sweatshirt features patch embroidery "ARMY" lettering made from two layers of felt, sewn individually to create a stroke around the text.
The ATHLETIC HALF-ZIP JERSEY / ARMY is inspired by the Olympic half-zip worn by the all-military Olympic pentathlon squad competing in Helsinki in 1952.
An early innovation in sportswear, the quarter zip allowed the sweatshirt to be easily removed over headgear after warm up.
