The TYPE B-15 REAL McCOY MFG. CO. follows the 1944 pattern of the B-15 flight jacket. Made from a 100% cotton sateen weave, covering a plush alpaca wool lining. Authentic details include a mouton wool collar with a storm flap and hand-warming slash pockets, fastened with a snap button.

The B-15 had a short life in the U.S. Army, only being produced for 4 months, with manufacturing starting in July 1944. Despite this short period of time in operation, there were as many as 19 contractors manufacturing the garment. With so many B-15 jackets in production over this time, civilian pieces would eventually make their way into the market, including pieces that didn’t match mil-spec standards.

The B-15 is famous for its off-set zip closure and olive drab cotton sateen body. This cotton sateen was the ideal cloth for the temperate climate in the European theatre of war and was bolstered by windproof alpaca lining. A high mouton collar, equipped with a storm flap, would further add insulation, as well as wool cuffs and hem—a detail that would be carried through later iterations of this garment.
