HEAVYWEIGHT CREWNECK / ALL ARMY

The HEAVYWEIGHT CREWNECK / ALL ARMY sweatshirt is made from reverse weave cotton and finished with an ALL ARMY slab motif.

The reverse weave technique, first used in 1938, requires heavyweight cotton cut along the cross-grain, as opposed to stitching the sweatshirt vertically. This revolutionary technique eliminates shrinkage and helps maintain the shape of the sweatshirt for longer. Sinker machines, which succeeded loopwheel machines, increased the speed of fabric production. This Heavyweight Crewneck Sweatshirt is made from 14oz. fabric constructed horizontally, unlike the vertical construction typically seen in sweatshirts from the 1940s era, resulting in no seams on the shoulders. The sweatshirt also features side gussets to prevent width-wise shrinkage after washing, a common construction method seen in sweatshirts from the 1960s and '70s.

The ALL ARMY Sports program, founded in 1957 see soldiers participate in tryouts to demonstrate their skills and, if selected, receive specialized training for competitions. Outstanding athletes may gain recognition and advancement opportunities, including representing the United States in international military competitions.
